Journal's AI Policy

JRPD (Jurnal Review Pendidikan Dasar: Jurnal Kajian Pendidikan dan Hasil Penelitian) upholds the principles of transparency, ethical authorship, and academic rigor. This policy sets out the obligations of authors, reviewers, and editors regarding the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted tools in the preparation, peer review, and editorial management of manuscripts. It is reviewed periodically to align with evolving international scholarly standards and COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines.

  1. Scope of the Policy

This policy governs the application of generative AI tools in writing, evaluating, editing, and reviewing scholarly manuscripts.

Note: This policy does not apply to AI-based empirical methods integrated into the actual research design (e.g., machine learning algorithms used to analyze primary research data). Such methods constitute part of the scientific inquiry itself and must be fully detailed within the METHODS section of the manuscript.

  1. Core Ethical Principles
  • AI Cannot Be an Author: Generative AI systems (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) may not be listed as authors, co-authors, or contributors. Authorship demands accountability, legal responsibility, and scientific integrity, which AI technologies cannot hold. Refer to our Authorship Criteria.
  • Human Accountability: The use of AI tools does not transfer responsibility. Authors remain fully accountable for the originality, accuracy, factual validity, and integrity of their work. Likewise, editors and reviewers remain solely accountable for their evaluations and decisions.
  • Human-Driven Editorial Decisions: AI must never replace scholarly judgment or be used to make, justify, or automate editorial decisions.
  • Absolute Confidentiality: Manuscripts under review are privileged, confidential documents. Entering, uploading, or processing any part of a submitted manuscript into an AI system or third-party application is strictly prohibited.
  1. Obligations of Authors

Mandatory AI Disclosure

Authors who utilize generative AI or AI-assisted technologies at any stage during manuscript preparation must disclose their use in a dedicated Declaration of Generative AI Use placed immediately before the REFERENCES section. The disclosure must:

  1. Specify the exact name and version of the AI tool used.
  2. Outline the specific sections or tasks where the tool was applied.
  3. Confirm that the authors have thoroughly reviewed, verified, and accepted full responsibility for the final output.

Example Disclosure Statement:

"The authors used [Tool Name, Version] to check grammar and enhance English readability in the Introduction and Discussion sections. All content was subsequently reviewed, edited, and verified by the authors, who take full responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the final manuscript."

If no AI tools were used, authors must state: "The authors used no generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the preparation of this manuscript."

Permitted Uses

  • Language & Grammar Enhancement: Refining syntax, correcting grammatical errors, and improving stylistic clarity.
  • Citation Management: Formatting references according to APA 6th Edition guidelines via software tools.
  • Plagiarism & Similarity Screening: Checking drafts prior to submission to prevent unintentional overlap.
  • Data Visualization: Formatting charts or graphs derived strictly from the authors' original dataset.

Prohibited Uses

  • Content Generation: Drafting main text sections (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, or Conclusion).
  • Scholarly Reasoning: Formulating research gaps, constructing theoretical frameworks, interpreting empirical findings, or drawing conclusions.
  • Data Fabrication/Falsification: Generating, altering, or synthesizing artificial research data, participants, or figures.
  • Fabricated Reference Creation: Generating literature citations. AI tools routinely generate plausible but fictitious citations. Authors must read and verify every cited source.
  • Image Manipulation: Generating synthetic research images or altering visual evidence.
  • Misrepresentation: Passing off AI-generated prose as the authors' original intellectual contribution.
  1. Obligations of the Editorial Team

Editors may utilize AI tools solely for limited administrative support, such as proofreading editorial correspondence or checking formatting compliance.

Editors are strictly prohibited from using AI to:

  • Assess the scientific quality, novelty, or empirical suitability of a manuscript.
  • Draft or synthesize substantive content for editorial decision letters.
  • Substitute human scholarly evaluation at any point in the editorial workflow.

Editors must never upload any submitted manuscript (or part thereof) into an external AI platform. Any limited administrative AI usage by an editor must be recorded in the submission file. Every final decision is rendered and signed by a named human editor who remains publicly accountable.

  1. Obligations of Peer Reviewers

Peer reviewers are strictly forbidden from using generative AI technologies in the review process. This prohibition includes:

  • Inputting a manuscript, abstract, title, or data into an AI tool for summarization, translation, evaluation, or analysis.
  • Utilizing AI software to draft, refine, or generate peer-review reports or comments.

Uploading unpublished manuscripts to AI systems breaches author confidentiality and risks exposing proprietary intellectual property to external databases. Reviewers who cannot evaluate a manuscript without AI assistance must decline the review invitation. By accepting an invitation, reviewers certify that their evaluation represents their own original intellectual work.

  1. Policy Breaches and Sanctions

Undisclosed or prohibited use of AI is treated as a breach of academic integrity and scientific misconduct. Depending on the stage of publication and severity of the violation, JRPD may:

  1. Require immediate manuscript revision and complete disclosure.
  2. Desk-reject the manuscript prior to or during peer review.
  3. Formally retract the article if the violation is identified post-publication.
  4. Remove non-compliant reviewers or editors from their roles within the journal.

Cases involving ethical breaches will be managed in accordance with our Publication Ethics and Allegation of Research Misconduct policies, under the oversight of COPE procedures.
