Abstract

Background: The growing accessibility of online gambling has become a serious psychological risk factor for Indonesian youth. Objective: This study aims to analyze the influence of emotion regulation and sleep quality on online gambling addiction among youth in Kediri Regency. Methods: Using a non-experimental quantitative predictive design, data were collected from 30 Indonesian youths aged 18–30 who had engaged or were currently engaging in online gambling within the past three months, selected through purposive sampling, using the ERQ, SQS, and OGAS scales. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression with Jamovi software. Results: The overall regression model was significant (F = 6.47, p = 0.005), with an effective contribution of 32.4%. Partial tests showed that emotion regulation was a significant predictor of online gambling addiction (t = −3.59, p = 0.001), while sleep quality was not significant (t = 1.13, p = 0.269). Conclusion: These findings confirm that emotion regulation is the dominant psychological factor protecting youth from online gambling addiction. The moderate R-square value (32.4%) indicates that emotion regulation and sleep quality explain a limited proportion of the variance in online gambling addiction, with the remaining 67.6% explained by other external factors. The very limited sample size of this study (N = 30) was due to the difficulty of reaching respondents, given that online gambling is an illegal activity in Indonesia.
