Retraction & Correction (R & C) Policy

At the Journal of Political Islam (JOPI) we uphold the highest academic integrity and scientific rigor standards. While we recognize and value the considerable effort invested by authors and reviewers in preparing and evaluating manuscripts, circumstances may arise that necessitate post-publication revisions. These include, but are not limited to, corrections, retractions, or, in rare cases, article removals. Such actions are taken with due diligence and only under exceptional conditions to ensure the accuracy, transparency, and trustworthiness of the academic record.

  1. Article Retraction

Retraction of a published article will be considered if:

  • Substantial Scientific Error: The article contains serious errors (whether due to honest mistakes or scientific misconduct, such as data fabrication or falsification) that invalidate its findings or conclusions.
  • Redundant or Duplicate Publication: The work has been previously published elsewhere without proper citation, acknowledgment, or justification.
  • Ethical Violations: Ethical concerns such as plagiarism, unauthorized authorship, or other breaches of publication ethics are identified.

Journal of Political Islam follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines when handling retraction cases. The standard retraction process includes:

  1. Preliminary Review: Upon identification or report of a concern, the Editor-in-Chief and/or Editorial Board will conduct a preliminary assessment.
  2. Ethics Review Panel: If warranted, the case is referred to the journal’s Ethics Advisory Panel to ensure fairness and consistency.
  3. Author Notification: The authors and, if necessary, their affiliated institutions will be informed of the findings and provided the opportunity to respond.
  4. Retraction Decision: A final decision will be made based on the evidence and ethical standards.
  5. Retraction Notice: A formal notice of retraction will be published in the journal and linked to the original article. The original text will remain accessible with a clear watermark and retraction label.

It is important to note that while authors may hold copyright, retraction decisions rest solely with the journal to preserve the integrity of the scientific record.

  1. Article Correction

Corrections may be issued when minor issues are identified that do not compromise the core findings of the article. Corrections may involve:

  • Factual Inaccuracies or Misstatements: Resulting from honest errors (e.g., mislabeling, calculation errors).
  • Authorship Changes: Corrections in the author list due to omission or inclusion of individuals not meeting authorship criteria.

Corrections are categorized as follows:

  • Erratum (Publisher’s Correction): For errors introduced by the editorial or production process.
  • Corrigendum (Author’s Correction): For errors made by the authors.
  • Addendum: For updates, clarifications, or supplementary information that enhances the original publication without altering the main conclusions.

All corrections will be accompanied by a clear notice and published both online and in print.

  1. Article Removal

In extremely rare cases, a published article may be removed from the journal’s website when:

  • The content is defamatory, infringes on legal rights, or is subject to a court order.
  • The article is found to contain material that could pose a serious and immediate health risk or public safety concern.

In such cases, the metadata (e.g., title, author names) will remain, but the full text will be replaced with a note stating the reason for removal, in compliance with legal and ethical guidelines.

  1. Article Replacement

When a published article is found to pose a serious health risk or contains major scientific flaws that require substantial revision, authors may submit a corrected version. The original article will be retracted according to standard procedure, and a replacement article will be published with full disclosure and a link to the original version for transparency.
