Peer Review Process

The Journal of Political Islam (JOPI) upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and quality in its peer review process. All submissions must strictly adhere to the Author Guidelines provided on the journal’s website. Manuscripts that do not comply with submission requirements, display formatting inconsistencies, present signs of ethical misconduct (e.g., plagiarism or duplicate submission), or fail to open reliably may be returned to the author without being considered for peer review.

Initial Editorial Assessment

Each submitted manuscript undergoes an initial evaluation by the Principal Editor to assess its alignment with the journal’s aims and scope, as well as its academic merit and compliance with formatting requirements. Manuscripts may be rejected at this stage if they:

  • Fall outside the scope of the journal,
  • contains insufficient scholarly contribution or conceptual depth,
  • They are improperly structured or poorly written,
  • Show evidence of plagiarism or other forms of publication malpractice.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening will be assigned to an Associate Editor, who will coordinate the peer review process.

Double-Blind Peer Review

The Journal of Political Islam employs a rigorous double-blind peer review system to ensure impartial and objective evaluation. In this model:

  • The identities of both reviewers and authors are concealed throughout the review process.
  • All identifying information is removed from the manuscript before it is sent to reviewers.

Each submission is reviewed by at least two independent experts with recognized expertise in the relevant field. Reviewers are asked to evaluate the manuscript’s originality, methodological soundness, theoretical contribution, relevance to the field of political Islam, clarity of presentation, and adherence to ethical research standards.

Reviewer Confidentiality and Conduct

All peer review reports are treated with strict confidentiality. Reviewers are expected to disclose any potential conflicts of interest and to evaluate manuscripts professionally and objectively. No part of the submitted content may be disclosed, used, or shared before publication without express permission.

Editorial Decision and Revision

Authors can expect an editorial decision—whether acceptance, rejection, or request for revision—within approximately eight weeks from the date of submission. If revisions are requested, the corresponding author will be given two to four weeks to submit a revised manuscript. Extensions may be granted at the discretion of the editor.

The final decision regarding publication rests solely with the Principal Editor, based on the peer review outcomes, editorial judgment, and alignment with the journal’s standards and objectives.

Confidentiality and Ethics Compliance

By the journal’s commitment to ethical publishing practices, all submitted manuscripts are treated with the utmost confidentiality prior to publication. The journal follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to ensure integrity throughout the editorial and peer review process.
