Retraction and Correction Policy
Plagiarism Policy
The Journal of Political Islam (JOPI) Editorial Board recognizes that plagiarism is an unacceptable violation of academic integrity and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of ethical publishing. The following policy outlines the specific actions and penalties that will be taken when plagiarism or text similarities are identified in articles submitted for publication in the Journal of Political Islam.
The journal utilizes Turnitin’s originality checking software to detect text similarities in both submitted manuscripts and the final versions of articles before publication. A maximum similarity index of 20% is permissible for submitted papers. If the similarity index exceeds 20%, the manuscript will be returned to the author for revision and resubmission.
Definition:
Plagiarism is defined as the “use or close imitation of the language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions of another author and presenting them as one’s original work.”
Policy:
Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Any material copied verbatim from another source must be identified by (1) indentation, (2) use of quotation marks, and (3) proper citation of the source.
Any text exceeding fair use (more than two or three sentences, or equivalent) or any graphical material reproduced from another source requires explicit permission from the copyright holder and, where possible, the original author(s). The source must also be properly cited (e.g., previous publication).
When plagiarism is detected, the Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with other editorial board members, will determine the appropriate actions based on the severity of the plagiarism, as outlined below:
Levels of Plagiarism:
1. Minor Plagiarism
Minor plagiarism occurs when a small sentence or short paragraph is copied from another manuscript, but without significant data, ideas, or research being taken.
Punishment: A warning will be issued to the authors, requesting that they modify the manuscript and properly cite the original sources.
2. Intermediate Plagiarism
Intermediate plagiarism involves the reproduction of substantial data, paragraphs, or sentences without proper citation to the source.
Punishment: The manuscript will be automatically rejected, and the authors will be asked to make corrections before considering future submissions.
3. Severe Plagiarism
Severe plagiarism involves extensive portions of the manuscript being plagiarized, including original data, ideas, research methods, equations, or results that are presented as the author's own work.
Punishment: The manuscript will be automatically rejected, and the authors will be prohibited from submitting any future manuscripts to the Journal of Political Islam.
