Abstract

This study aimed to develop a short-story-based digital learning media prototype entitled Petualangan Aqua for teaching the water cycle to fifth-grade elementary school students. The development was motivated by the limited use of innovative learning media in science instruction, which often results in low student engagement and difficulties in understanding abstract scientific concepts. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. However, the development process was limited to the expert validation stage. The prototype was developed using Canva and integrated water cycle content with short stories, interactive exercises, immediate feedback, and an educational game created using Scratch. The product was validated by two experts, including a university lecturer and an elementary school teacher, through media and material validation instruments. The results showed that the media expert validation achieved an average feasibility score of 93.75%, categorized as very valid, while the material expert validation obtained an average score of 95.00%, also categorized as very valid. These findings indicate that the developed media is highly feasible for supporting elementary school science learning. The integration of storytelling and interactive digital features provides meaningful learning experiences that support students’ conceptual understanding and literacy development. This study contributes to the development of innovative digital learning media by demonstrating the potential of story-based approaches to enhance science learning and literacy simultaneously in elementary education.
