Plagiarism and Similarity Screening Policy

JP (Jurnal Pendidikan): Teori dan Praktik is committed to publishing original scholarly work and maintaining academic integrity. The journal does not tolerate plagiarism or other forms of inappropriate appropriation of intellectual contributions.

1. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism occurs when an individual presents the words, ideas, data, findings, or other intellectual contributions of another person as their own without appropriate acknowledgment.

Plagiarism may include direct copying, inadequately attributed paraphrasing, unauthorized reproduction of figures or tables, and the use of research findings without proper citation.

Inappropriate reuse of an author's previously published work without adequate disclosure may also raise concerns regarding text recycling or redundant publication.

2. Similarity Screening

All submitted manuscripts are subject to originality and similarity screening using Turnitin, the similarity-checking software available through Universitas Negeri Surabaya.

Similarity reports assist the editorial team in identifying potentially overlapping material.

A similarity percentage is not, by itself, proof of plagiarism. The editorial team considers the sources, extent, nature, and context of textual overlap before making an editorial decision.

Properly cited quotations, references, standard methodological descriptions, and commonly used technical terminology may produce legitimate similarities.

3. Author Responsibilities

Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts represent original scholarly contributions and properly acknowledge all sources.

Authors are responsible for checking the accuracy of quotations, citations, paraphrases, and references before submission.

Manuscripts must not be submitted simultaneously to multiple journals or reproduce previously published work in a misleading manner.

4. Editorial Assessment

When potentially inappropriate similarity is identified, the editorial team may request clarification, revisions, or supporting documentation.

Substantial or deliberate plagiarism may result in manuscript rejection.

Editorial decisions will be based on the seriousness of the issue and the available evidence rather than solely on a numerical similarity score.

5. Plagiarism Identified After Publication

If credible evidence of plagiarism is reported after publication, the journal will evaluate the allegation under its publication ethics procedures.

Depending on the findings, editorial measures may include publishing a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction.

Authors will normally be given an opportunity to respond to substantive concerns before a final editorial decision is reached.

6. Commitment to Originality

JP (Jurnal Pendidikan): Teori dan Praktik encourages responsible citation practices, original analysis, accurate reporting, and respect for intellectual property.

The journal's plagiarism assessment is guided by academic integrity and the principles of responsible scholarly publication.
