Generative AI Use
Generative AI Use Policy
IJCIS Ethics and Integrity Standards
Updated: 2026
General Principle
The International Journal of Chinese Interdisciplinary Studies (IJCIS) recognizes the potential of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in academic writing. However, the use of these tools must adhere to strict ethical guidelines to maintain the transparency, accountability, and integrity of scholarly research.
Authorship and Accountability
- No Authorship Status: Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) cannot be listed as an author or co-author. Authorship implies legal and ethical responsibilities that AI cannot fulfill.
- Ultimate Responsibility: Authors are fully responsible for the content of their manuscript, including any parts generated or assisted by AI. This includes ensuring factual accuracy and preventing plagiarism.
- Integrity of Interpretation: AI should only be used to improve readability or language. The core intellectual contribution, interpretation of data, and conclusions must remain the work of human authors.
Disclosure Requirements
Authors must disclose the use of Generative AI in their submission. This information should be placed in a dedicated section titled "Declaration of Generative AI Use" before the References section.
Example: "During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [TOOL NAME] in order to [REASON, e.g., improve the English grammar]. After using this tool, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the publication."
Permitted Use
- Language editing and grammar correction.
- Style improvement for non-native speakers.
- Generating initial brainstorming outlines.
- Technical coding assistance (if disclosed).
Prohibited Use
- Creating fabricated data or citations.
- Generating entire research conclusions.
- Using AI to bypass peer review feedback.
- Undisclosed generation of visual/artistic data.
Confidentiality & Peer Review
Peer Reviewers are strictly prohibited from uploading submitted manuscripts into Generative AI tools. Doing so violates the confidentiality of the peer review process and the intellectual property rights of the authors. Reviewers must maintain total confidentiality at all times.
