Abstract

Background: Cannabis abuse in Indonesia is a multidimensional issue shaped by psychological, sociological, cultural, and socioeconomic factors. Objective: This study examines the effects of Provincial Minimum Wage, population density, and socioeconomic characteristics on cannabis abuse through psychological, sociological, and anthropological perspectives. Method: A mixed-methods design combined a systematic literature review, machine-learning analysis of provincial secondary data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), and semi-structured interviews with three participants for contextual explanation rather than statistical generalization. Decision Tree, Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, and Neural Network models were used to identify key predictors. Results: Provincial Minimum Wage and population density consistently emerged as the most influential predictors, while interviews showed how economic pressure, social environment, and cultural values shape cannabis-related behaviours. Conclusion: Cannabis abuse reflects interactions among structural, psychological, and sociocultural factors. Integrating machine learning with qualitative inquiry offers a more comprehensive understanding and supports future prevention and intervention strategies.
