Publication Ethics

The Publication Ethics Statement of JPUS: Jurnal Pendidikan Untuk Semua sets out the ethical principles and responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including the journal management, editors, reviewers, and authors.

In general, the publication ethics of JPUS refer to the principles and guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the ethical principles of scientific publication as stipulated in the Regulation of the Head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) Number 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publication.

The journal upholds three fundamental ethical values in scholarly publishing:

• Neutrality: ensuring that publication management and editorial decisions are free from conflicts of interest.
• Fairness: ensuring that authorship and recognition are appropriately granted to those who have made substantial contributions to the work.
• Integrity: ensuring that published works are free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism.

Screening for Plagiarism

All manuscripts submitted to JPUS are screened for originality using Turnitin plagiarism-detection software prior to peer review. Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 25% will be returned to the author for revision, or rejected if the similarity is deemed excessive or indicative of misconduct. This screening applies at both the initial submission stage and prior to final publication.

Responsibilities of the Journal Management

The journal management is responsible for:

1. Establishing the journal's identity, scholarly scope, publication frequency, and accreditation strategy where applicable.
2. Appointing and maintaining a qualified Editorial Board.
3. Defining the roles and professional relationships among the publisher, editors, reviewers, authors, and other relevant parties.
4. Protecting confidential information concerning authors, editors, reviewers, and other contributors.
5. Ensuring compliance with intellectual property rights, particularly copyright and licensing provisions.
6. Regularly reviewing journal policies and communicating them clearly to authors, editors, reviewers, and readers.
7. Establishing appropriate codes of conduct for editors and reviewers.
8. Ensuring that the journal is published regularly and sustainably.
9. Supporting the availability of adequate resources for the continuity of journal publication.
10. Developing academic collaboration, networking, dissemination, and visibility of the journal.
11. Ensuring compliance with relevant administrative, institutional, and legal requirements.

Responsibilities of the Editors

Editors are responsible for:

1. Balancing the interests of authors, readers, reviewers, and the academic community.
2. Continuously improving the academic and editorial quality of the journal.
3. Maintaining an appropriate editorial and peer-review process to ensure the quality of published manuscripts.
4. Making editorial decisions objectively and independently based on academic merit.
5. Maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.
6. Issuing corrections, clarifications, expressions of concern, retractions, or apologies when necessary, in accordance with the journal's Retraction Policy.
7. Ensuring consistency in manuscript style and format, while recognizing that authors remain responsible for the content and statements presented in their manuscripts.
8. Seeking feedback from authors, readers, reviewers, and Editorial Board members to improve journal quality.
9. Investigating credible allegations or concerns related to research and publication misconduct.
10. Supporting initiatives to prevent research and publication misconduct, including requesting ethical approval or ethical clearance when required by the nature of the study.
11. Promoting awareness and understanding of publication ethics among authors and researchers.
12. Regularly evaluating journal policies and their impact on authors, reviewers, and editorial practices.
13. Remaining open to new perspectives and scholarly opinions, including those that differ from personal views.
14. Avoiding personal, institutional, financial, or other interests that may compromise editorial objectivity.
15. Providing authors with appropriate opportunities to revise and improve manuscripts when revisions are justified.

Responsibilities of the Reviewers

Reviewers are responsible for:

1. Providing objective, constructive, and scholarly assessments of manuscripts assigned by the editors.
2. Declining to review manuscripts where a potential conflict of interest may compromise impartiality.
3. Maintaining the confidentiality of manuscripts and all information obtained through the peer-review process.
4. Providing clear comments, recommendations, and constructive suggestions to help authors improve their manuscripts.
5. Reviewing revised manuscripts when requested by the editors.
6. Completing reviews within the agreed timeframe.
7. Assessing manuscripts according to academic standards, including the relevance of the research problem, methodology, analysis, originality, validity of conclusions, and conformity with the journal's focus and scope.
8. Informing the editors of any suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, data manipulation, or other forms of publication misconduct identified during the review process.

Responsibilities of the Authors

Authors are responsible for:

1. Ensuring that all individuals listed as authors meet appropriate authorship criteria and have made substantial contributions to the manuscript.
2. Taking collective responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, methodology, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of the research.
3. Clearly acknowledging all sources of financial and non-financial support related to the research.
4. Disclosing any potential conflicts of interest.
5. Presenting research findings accurately and transparently, including relevant limitations of the study.
6. Responding to reviewers' and editors' comments professionally, clearly, and within the specified revision period.
7. Informing the editors promptly if they wish to withdraw a manuscript from the publication process.
8. Ensuring that submitted manuscripts are original, have not been previously published in any language, and are not simultaneously under consideration by another journal.
9. Providing appropriate citations and acknowledgments for all ideas, data, quotations, figures, tables, and other materials derived from other sources.
10. Avoiding plagiarism, self-plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, and other forms of research or publication misconduct.
11. Providing supporting data or documentation when reasonably requested by the editors to verify the integrity of the research.
12. Informing the journal immediately if a significant error or inaccuracy is discovered in a submitted or published article and cooperating with the editors in issuing an appropriate correction or retraction.

Retraction Policy

JPUS may retract a published article if:

• There is clear evidence that the findings are unreliable due to misconduct (e.g., data fabrication) or honest error (e.g., miscalculation or experimental error);
• The findings have been published elsewhere without proper cross-referencing, permission, or justification;
• The work constitutes plagiarism or fails to disclose a major conflict of interest that, in the editors' judgment, would have affected the interpretation or recommendations of the work.

Retraction decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief in consultation with the Editorial Board, following COPE guidelines. A retraction notice will be published and linked to the retracted article, stating the reason for retraction, while the original article remains accessible with a clear retraction watermark.
