Abstract

Climate change and marine degradation are ecological pressures that are increasingly affecting the lives of coastal communities, including the social conditions and well-being of children. This study aims to analyze the forms of social vulnerability among children in coastal communities caused by climate change and marine degradation, as well as to identify the influencing factors and adaptation strategies developed by families and communities. This study employs a qualitative approach through a literature review. Data were obtained from 20 national and international journal articles, books, reports, and relevant scientific documents, and were analyzed descriptively and thematically through a process of identification, selection, extraction, categorization, comparison, and synthesis of findings. The research findings indicate that climate change and marine degradation are linked to children’s social vulnerability in coastal communities through disruptions to ecosystems, livelihoods, income, and household food security. This vulnerability encompasses food, health, education, economic, protective, psychosocial, and social aspects. The level of vulnerability is influenced by ecological exposure, family socioeconomic conditions, and adaptive capacity. Strengthening family economies, ensuring access to basic services, protecting children, building community capacity, and providing institutional support are key strategies for reducing vulnerability and enhancing children’s social resilience in coastal communities.
