The Journal of Sustainable Science and Educational Innovation (JSSEI) is committed to providing an accessible and equitable scholarly publishing process. The journal supports the dissemination of research in science education, educational innovation, educational technology, STEM education, environmental education, and sustainability without imposing financial barriers on authors or readers.
JSSEI operates under a no-fee publication policy. Authors are not required to pay any charges at any stage of manuscript submission, editorial assessment, peer review, acceptance, publication, or post-publication administration. Access to published articles is also provided without subscription charges.
The journal maintains a clear separation between financial considerations and editorial decisions. Manuscripts are evaluated according to their scholarly quality, relevance to the journal's scope, methodological rigor, originality, and compliance with publication ethics.
1. Submission Fee
JSSEI does not charge a submission fee.
Authors may submit manuscripts through the journal's official Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform without paying an initial submission charge or an administrative fee to register or submit their work.
The editorial office will not request payment as a condition for conducting an initial manuscript assessment or forwarding an eligible manuscript to peer review.
All manuscripts are processed according to the journal's submission requirements and editorial procedures. The absence of a submission fee does not exempt authors from complying with the journal's policies, manuscript template, ethical standards, or peer-review requirements.
2. Article Processing and Publication Charges
JSSEI does not impose an Article Processing Charge (APC) or any other publication fee.
No payment is required when a manuscript is accepted, prepared for publication, or published online. The journal does not differentiate publication charges according to the authors' institutional affiliations, academic positions, countries of origin, funding status, or international collaboration arrangements.
The following services and stages are provided without charges to authors:
- Initial editorial assessment.
- Peer-review administration.
- Manuscript revision and editorial evaluation.
- Acceptance and publication processing.
- Online publication of the final article.
- Assignment and maintenance of article metadata as part of the journal's publication process.
- Routine editorial and administrative communication.
Acceptance decisions are based on the journal's academic and ethical requirements, not on an author's ability or willingness to pay. No payment is required to obtain acceptance or publication, and no financial contribution can guarantee a positive editorial decision.
3. Proofreading and Language Support
JSSEI does not require authors to purchase proofreading, language editing, or other editorial services as a condition of manuscript consideration or publication.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are written clearly and comply with the journal's language and formatting requirements. They may independently seek language assistance if necessary, but the use of an external service is optional and is not a journal-mandated expense.
The journal does not impose a proofreading fee, language-editing fee, or mandatory payment for manuscript formatting. Editorial decisions remain based on scholarly quality, clarity, suitability, and compliance with the journal's requirements.
4. Fast-Track Review and Expedited Processing
JSSEI does not charge a fast-track review fee or offer preferential editorial treatment in exchange for payment.
All submissions are handled through the journal's established editorial workflow. The time required for editorial assessment, peer review, revision, and publication may vary depending on reviewer availability, manuscript complexity, the extent of required revisions, and other operational considerations.
Authors cannot obtain priority acceptance, guaranteed publication, a guaranteed Letter of Acceptance (LoA), or a predetermined publication date through payment.
Requests concerning manuscript progress will be handled through normal editorial communication. Any expedited handling, if considered necessary by the editorial team, must not compromise reviewer independence, evaluation standards, or publication ethics.
5. Fee Waivers and Financial Assistance
Because JSSEI does not charge submission, processing, peer-review, or publication fees, authors are not required to apply for a fee waiver to publish their work in the journal.
There is no distinction in publication costs between undergraduate students, graduate students, lecturers, independent researchers, researchers from different institutions, or authors from different countries.
Authors without research funding may submit their manuscripts under the same no-fee policy as authors supported by research grants or institutional funding.
The journal does not require proof of financial hardship, a waiver application, or special approval to receive the benefits of its no-fee publication policy.
6. Manuscript Withdrawal and Post-Publication Administrative Changes
JSSEI does not impose administrative charges for author-initiated manuscript withdrawal or requests to correct publication information.
Manuscript Withdrawal
Authors who wish to withdraw a manuscript must communicate their request to the editorial office in writing and provide an explanation. Where appropriate, the journal may seek confirmation from the other authors to ensure that the request is authorized and does not conflict with their rights or responsibilities.
Withdrawal requests remain subject to editorial assessment and applicable publication ethics requirements. A request does not automatically terminate the editorial process until the journal has confirmed the outcome.
JSSEI does not charge a withdrawal fee, including when a manuscript has undergone initial assessment, peer review, revision, acceptance, or editorial preparation.
If withdrawal involves concerns such as duplicate submission, authorship disputes, research misconduct, or other ethical issues, the journal may investigate the matter under its relevant policies. Such an investigation does not create a basis for imposing a withdrawal charge.
Post-Publication Changes
Once an article has been published, requests concerning errors, author information, metadata, or other publication details will be assessed according to the journal's correction and retraction procedures.
Depending on the circumstances, the appropriate action may include a correction, an erratum, a corrigendum, an expression of concern, or a retraction.
JSSEI does not impose administrative or production fees for processing legitimate post-publication corrections or other editorial actions. Requests will be evaluated based on their validity, supporting evidence, publication ethics, and implications for the scholarly record.
The journal retains editorial authority to determine whether a requested change is appropriate. The no-fee policy does not guarantee approval of every request.
Actions to Protect Publication Integrity
No fee or payment condition will prevent JSSEI from correcting the scholarly record when necessary.
If an article requires correction, an expression of concern, retraction, or another appropriate action because of a verified scientific error, ethical concern, legal issue, authorship problem, or research-integrity violation, the journal will assess and handle the matter in accordance with its applicable policies.
Authors will not be charged for editorial actions required to address such concerns. Financial considerations will never take precedence over the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of published research.
7. Subscription and Access Fees
JSSEI supports the dissemination of scholarly knowledge through open access.
JSSEI does not charge readers subscription fees to access its published articles. Readers can access the journal's online content without paying a subscription or an article access fee.
Access to published content is governed by the journal's applicable Open Access, Copyright, and License Policy. Users must respect the license terms and any applicable attribution requirements when using or distributing published material.
The journal's commitment to free access is intended to support the wider circulation of research findings and educational innovations among researchers, teachers, students, institutions, and the broader academic community.
8. Journal Funding and Financial Transparency
JSSEI maintains a no-fee publication model for authors and readers. The journal does not finance its publication process by charging authors for submission, peer review, manuscript processing, or publication.
The absence of publication charges does not alter the journal's responsibility to maintain transparent editorial procedures, appropriate peer review, and ethical publishing practices.
Any financial or institutional support received by the journal, where applicable, should be managed transparently and must not determine the scholarly evaluation of individual manuscripts.
Funding sources, sponsorship arrangements, or other financial relationships must not provide authors, sponsors, or other parties with the authority to influence reviewer recommendations, editorial decisions, or the content of published articles.
The journal's editorial decisions remain the responsibility of its editorial team and must be based on scholarly merit, relevance, research quality, and compliance with applicable policies.
9. Advertising and Commercial Interests
Any advertising, sponsorship, or commercial activity associated with JSSEI must remain separate from editorial decision-making.
Commercial interests must not determine which manuscripts are accepted, rejected, reviewed, or published. Advertisers, sponsors, and other commercial parties must not receive preferential treatment in the editorial process because of financial or institutional relationships.
The journal will seek to ensure that any relevant commercial relationships are managed transparently and do not compromise its academic independence or the credibility of its published content.
The no-fee publication policy cannot be used to justify hidden charges, compulsory purchases, or payment arrangements that create an undisclosed financial barrier to submission or publication.
10. Direct Marketing and Manuscript Invitations
JSSEI may communicate information about the journal, its scope, publication activities, and calls for papers through appropriate academic communication channels.
Marketing activities and manuscript invitations must be accurate, professional, and consistent with the journal's actual policies and publication practices.
Communications must not imply that payment can secure acceptance, accelerate a manuscript's approval, guarantee a Letter of Acceptance, or provide preferential treatment. The journal must also avoid misleading claims about its indexing status, editorial procedures, or publication services.
Any communication concerning publication fees must clearly reflect JSSEI's no-fee policy. Authors should not be asked to pay charges that are not part of the journal's formally established policies.
11. Editorial Independence from Financial Considerations
Editorial independence is a fundamental principle of JSSEI's publication process.
Because the journal does not charge submission, peer-review, processing, or publication fees, authors' financial circumstances do not determine their eligibility to submit or publish a manuscript.
The following principles apply to all submissions:
- Manuscripts are evaluated according to scholarly and ethical criteria.
- No payment is required to obtain peer review or publication.
- Authors are not granted preferential treatment based on financial contributions.
- Editorial decisions are not determined by funding status or the ability to pay.
- Corrections and other actions necessary to protect the scholarly record are not subject to administrative charges.
- Financial or commercial relationships must not override editorial judgment.
The editorial team is responsible for ensuring that the journal's academic standards and publication ethics are maintained consistently throughout the editorial process.
12. Policy Review
JSSEI may periodically review this policy to ensure that it remains consistent with the journal's publication model, editorial procedures, and applicable scholarly publishing standards.
Any proposed change affecting the no-fee publication model must be formally reviewed and clearly communicated through the journal's official website before it takes effect.
Until a change is formally adopted and published, the applicable JSSEI policy remains in force. No fee may be introduced or collected solely through an informal request, individual communication, or arrangement that has not been officially established by the journal.
JSSEI remains committed to maintaining a publication process in which authors can submit and publish scholarly work, and readers can access published articles, without publication or access charges.
