Abstract

This study aimed to characterize the technical demands of competitive boxing and explore their implications for physical training planning across weight categories. A quantitative descriptive design employing match content analysis was used to examine video recordings of 20 final bouts from the 2024 Indonesian National Sports Week (PON XXI Aceh–North Sumatra). Structured observations quantified punching techniques (jab, straight, hook, and uppercut) and clinching actions, while a proposed workload calculation framework was used to estimate endurance, strength-related, and speed, agility, and quickness (SAQ) training volumes. The results revealed substantial variation in technical activity across weight categories. The men's 48 kg category recorded the highest overall activity (310 actions), while the women's 66 kg category exhibited 282 actions. These findings suggest that competition-derived technical profiles may inform individualized conditioning priorities. However, the proposed training volumes require physiological validation before implementation as standardized training prescriptions.
