Author Guidlines

When submitting an article to The Journal of Sports Coaching and Performance Education (JSCPE), authors should pay attention to the following guidelines:

1. Scope of the Article

The submitted article must be relevant to the focus and scope of The Journal of Sports Coaching and Performance Education (JSCPE). The journal welcomes original research and scholarly articles related to sports coaching, sports performance, physical education, athlete development, coaching education, and related areas.

Topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • Sports coaching and coaching strategies
  • Coaching education and professional development
  • Athlete development and talent identification
  • Sports performance and performance analysis
  • Training methods and exercise programs
  • Physical education and sports pedagogy
  • Athlete motivation, psychology, and mental performance
  • Sports science and performance optimization
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Sports technology and performance monitoring
  • Team performance and leadership
  • Sports injury prevention and rehabilitation
  • Physical activity and fitness education
  • Assessment and evaluation in sports and physical education

2. Manuscript Format

The manuscript should be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format with the following conditions:

  • Paper size: A4 (21 cm × 29.7 cm).
  • Page margins: Left 1.27 cm, Top 2.5 cm, Right 1.27 cm, and Bottom 1.9 cm.
  • Manuscripts should generally contain 7–10 pages, including references.
  • The manuscript should be written in one-column format.
  • The main manuscript should use Palatino Linotype font.
  • The manuscript should be written in clear and grammatically correct English.
  • Authors should use consistent capitalization, spelling, terminology, and formatting throughout the manuscript.
  • Conjunctions and prepositions should follow appropriate English capitalization and grammatical rules.

3. Article Structure

Articles submitted to JSCPE should be organized according to the following structure:

Title

  • Font: Palatino Linotype
  • Bold
  • Capitalize the first letter of each major word.
  • The title should be concise, specific, informative, and reflect the main content of the manuscript.
  • Avoid unnecessary abbreviations, symbols, and special characters.
  • The title should preferably indicate the main topic, population, or research variable where appropriate.

Author Name

  • Font: Palatino Linotype 10 pt
  • Author names should be written without academic degrees or professional titles.
  • The order of authors should reflect their contribution to the manuscript.

Author Affiliation

  • Font: Palatino Linotype 8 pt
  • Include the name of the department/program, institution, city, and country.
  • Affiliations should correspond to the authors listed in the manuscript.

Corresponding Author

  • Font: Palatino Linotype 8 pt
  • Provide the full email address of the corresponding author.
  • The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the editorial office during the submission, review, and publication processes.

Abstract

  • Heading: Palatino Linotype 9 pt, bold, uppercase
  • Text: Palatino Linotype 9 pt
  • Line spacing: 1 space
  • The abstract must be written in English.
  • The abstract should be written as one concise paragraph.
  • The abstract should briefly describe the background or research problem, purpose/objective, research method, main results, and conclusion.
  • The abstract should contain a maximum of 200 words.
  • Do not include citations, references, tables, figures, equations, or unnecessary abbreviations in the abstract.
  • Avoid symbols and special characters unless they are essential to conveying the research findings.

Keywords

  • Font: Palatino Linotype 9 pt, bold for the heading and Palatino Linotype 9 pt for the keywords.
  • Keywords must be written in English.
  • Provide 3–5 keywords.
  • Keywords should accurately represent the main concepts, variables, population, or research area of the manuscript.

Introduction

  • Heading: Palatino Linotype 10 pt, bold

  • Line spacing: 1.15 spaces
  • The Introduction should provide a clear background to the research problem.
  • It should explain the significance and relevance of the study.
  • The introduction should present relevant previous research and identify the research gap.
  • The objectives, research questions, or hypotheses should be clearly stated.
  • Citations should be used to support important theoretical and empirical statements.

Materials and Methods

  • Heading: Palatino Linotype 10 pt, bold
  • Text: Palatino Linotype 10 pt
  • Line spacing: 1.15 spaces
  • This section should describe the research procedures clearly enough to allow the study to be understood and, where appropriate, replicated.
  • Depending on the type of study, this section may include:
    • Research design
    • Participants or research subjects
    • Population and sampling procedures
    • Instruments and measurement procedures
    • Training or intervention procedures
    • Data collection procedures
    • Data analysis techniques
    • Validity and reliability procedures
    • Ethical considerations

For studies involving human participants, authors should provide appropriate information regarding research ethics and informed consent where applicable.

Results

  • The Results section should present the findings of the study clearly and systematically.
  • Tables, figures, graphs, and statistical results may be used when appropriate.
  • Results should be presented objectively without excessive repetition of information already provided in tables or figures.
  • Statistical findings should be reported using appropriate statistical terminology and formats.

Discussion

  • Line spacing: 1.5 spaces
  • The Discussion should interpret the findings rather than merely repeat the Results.
  • Authors should relate their findings to relevant theories and previous research.
  • Similarities and differences between the current findings and previous studies should be discussed.
  • The theoretical, practical, and/or educational implications of the findings should be explained where relevant.
  • Limitations of the study may also be presented in this section.
  • The Discussion may be divided into several subsections with concise and informative subheadings.

Conclusion

  • Heading: Palatino Linotype 10 pt, bold
  • Text: Palatino Linotype 10 pt
  • Line spacing: 1.5 spaces
  • The Conclusion should directly address the research objectives or questions.
  • It should summarize the main findings and their implications.
  • Avoid introducing new data, arguments, or citations that have not been discussed previously.
  • Recommendations for coaches, athletes, physical education practitioners, researchers, or other relevant stakeholders may be included where appropriate.

References

  • Heading: Palatino Linotype 10 pt, bold
  • Text: Palatino Linotype 10 pt
  • Line spacing: 1 space
  • All references cited in the manuscript must appear in the reference list, and all references listed must be cited in the manuscript.
  • JSCPE uses the IEEE reference style.
  • Authors are strongly recommended to use reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • References should primarily consist of relevant and recent scholarly publications.
  • References in the form of books or textbooks should preferably have been published within the last 10 years.
  • Journal articles, conference proceedings, theses, and dissertations should preferably have been published within the last 5 years, unless older sources are considered seminal or essential to the theoretical framework.
  • The manuscript should contain a minimum of 15 references.
  • At least 70% of the references should come from scholarly journal articles.
  • Authors should prioritize reputable and relevant peer-reviewed journals.
  • Authors should ensure that every citation in the manuscript corresponds exactly to an entry in the reference list.

4. General Manuscript Requirements

Authors must ensure that:

  1. The manuscript is original and has not been published previously.
  2. The manuscript is not simultaneously submitted to another journal.
  3. All authors have made a substantial contribution to the manuscript.
  4. All sources, quotations, data, ideas, and previously published materials are appropriately acknowledged and cited.
  5. The manuscript complies with the JSCPE Plagiarism Policy.
  6. Any potential conflict of interest is disclosed.
  7. Research involving human participants complies with applicable ethical standards.
  8. Tables and figures are numbered consecutively and appropriately cited in the manuscript.
  9. All statistical data and research findings are presented accurately.
  10. The manuscript follows the JSCPE article template and formatting requirements.

5. Manuscript Submission

Authors should submit manuscripts through the journal's designated online submission system. The submitted manuscript must comply with the JSCPE Author Guidelines and journal template.

Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's basic formatting, scope, originality, or ethical requirements may be returned to the authors before being considered for peer review.
