Publication Ethics

The International Disability and Inclusion Journal (IDIJ) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and integrity in scholarly communication. Our editorial and review processes follow the principles and best practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All parties involved in the publication process authors, editors, reviewers, and publishers are expected to adhere to the following ethical responsibilities.

  1. Responsibilities of Authors
  • Originality and Integrity: Authors must submit original work that accurately represents their research and has not been published elsewhere. Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and data manipulation are strictly prohibited.
  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper citation of prior work and intellectual contributions is required. Any reuse of content (text, data, images) must be properly attributed.
  • Authorship Transparency: All listed authors must have made a significant contribution to the manuscript. Any changes in authorship after submission must be approved by all listed authors.
  • Disclosure: Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest or financial support relevant to the research.
  • Ethical Approval: For studies involving human participants, authors must confirm that ethical approval was obtained from the appropriate institutional review board.
  1. Responsibilities of Reviewers
  • Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential and must not share or discuss them outside the review process.
  • Objectivity: Reviews must be conducted objectively and constructively, avoiding personal criticism.
  • Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must recuse themselves if there is any conflict of interest with the manuscript under review.
  • Timeliness: Reviewers are expected to complete their reviews within the specified time to ensure an efficient editorial process.
  1. Responsibilities of Editors
  • Fair and Transparent Decision-Making: Editors are responsible for selecting manuscripts based on scholarly merit, originality, and relevance to the journal’s scope, regardless of authors’ backgrounds or affiliations.
  • Maintaining Review Integrity: Editors oversee a fair and unbiased peer review process and ensure that reviewer identities are protected when appropriate.
  • Handling Misconduct: Editors will act on suspected cases of misconduct (e.g., plagiarism, unethical research, authorship disputes) in accordance with COPE guidelines. Proven cases may lead to retraction, correction, or notification to institutions.
  • Corrections and Retractions: When necessary, editors will issue corrections, retractions, or statements of concern to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.
  1. Use of AI and Automation in Publishing
  • The use of generative AI tools in manuscript preparation must be disclosed and is limited to minor editorial functions. Authors are accountable for the integrity of all content, regardless of AI involvement.

By submitting to IDIJ, all participants affirm their commitment to these ethical principles. The journal reserves the right to take corrective actions, including rejection, retraction, and reporting to relevant authorities, when breaches of ethics are identified.
