Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar

EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar is committed to maintaining high standards of integrity, transparency, accountability, fairness, confidentiality, editorial independence, accessibility, inclusivity, and academic quality throughout the scholarly publishing process.

This Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement establishes the ethical principles and responsibilities applicable to all parties involved in the publication process of EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar, including Authors, Editors, Reviewers, Editorial Board members, editorial staff, and the Publisher.

EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar refers to internationally recognized principles of ethical and transparent scholarly publishing, particularly guidance issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing, developed collaboratively by COPE, the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).

This policy applies to all scholarly content submitted to or published by EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar, including research articles, review articles, invited manuscripts, special issue articles, conference-related manuscripts, editorial materials, corrections, post-publication updates, comments and criticism, author responses, and other scholarly content.

EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar upholds the following fundamental principles:

  • Integrity — honesty, accuracy, responsibility, and accountability throughout research, peer review, editorial decision-making, and publication.
  • Fairness — objective, consistent, and impartial assessment of manuscripts, Authors, Reviewers, and ethical concerns.
  • Editorial Independence — editorial decisions must remain independent from inappropriate institutional, commercial, financial, personal, political, or other external influence.
  • Transparency — editorial policies, procedures, declarations, corrections, publication charges, and significant publication information should be clearly communicated.
  • Confidentiality — submitted manuscripts, peer-review materials, personal information, investigations, and editorial communications must be appropriately protected.
  • Accountability — Authors, Editors, Reviewers, Editorial Board members, editorial staff, and the Publisher are responsible for their respective roles in protecting the integrity of scholarly communication.
  • Accessibility, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity — the journal seeks to provide an academic publishing environment free from unnecessary or discriminatory barriers.

Editorial decisions are based primarily on scholarly merit, originality, relevance to the journal's Focus and Scope, methodological soundness, ethical compliance, clarity, integrity, and contribution to the field of primary education.

Decisions must not be influenced by an Author's nationality, ethnicity, race, gender, religion, political views, citizenship, institutional affiliation, financial circumstances, or other characteristics unrelated to the scholarly content of the manuscript.

A Duties of Editors
1 Publication Decisions

Editors are responsible for determining whether manuscripts submitted to EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar are suitable for publication.

Editorial decisions shall be based on academic merit, originality, relevance to the journal's Focus and Scope, methodological soundness, clarity, scholarly contribution, peer-review reports, ethical considerations, research integrity, and compliance with journal policies.

Editors may consult other Editors, independent Reviewers, Editorial Board members, subject specialists, statisticians, research-integrity experts, ethics experts, or other appropriate specialists when additional expertise is required.

The Editor-in-Chief retains responsibility for the final editorial decision.

2 Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions must remain independent from inappropriate influence by the Publisher, journal owner, institution, sponsor, commercial entity, Author, Reviewer, or other third parties.

Decisions concerning acceptance, rejection, revision, correction, expression of concern, retraction, removal, replacement, or other actions involving scholarly content must be based on academic quality, available evidence, ethical considerations, peer-review results, editorial assessment, and protection of the scholarly record.

Article processing charges, administrative charges, waiver requests, sponsorship, advertising, institutional relationships, or other financial and commercial matters must not influence editorial decisions.

3 Fair and Non-Discriminatory Evaluation

Editors shall evaluate manuscripts solely on the basis of their intellectual and scholarly content.

Manuscripts shall not be evaluated differently because of the Authors' nationality, ethnicity, race, gender, religion, political views, citizenship, institutional affiliation, financial status, personal relationships, or other considerations unrelated to scholarly merit.

4 Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must treat submitted manuscripts and related materials as confidential.

Information concerning a manuscript must not be disclosed to unauthorized persons.

Submitted manuscripts, Reviewer reports, Author responses, research data, figures, supplementary materials, investigation records, and confidential editorial communications must not be shared outside the authorized editorial, peer-review, or research-integrity process.

5 Use of Generative AI in Editorial Processes

Editors and editorial staff may use generative AI, AI-assisted technologies, or language-support technologies only for supportive and non-decisional purposes where permitted by journal policy.

Such technologies must not replace human scholarly assessment, ethical judgment, evaluation of Reviewer recommendations, research-integrity assessment, Conflict of Interest assessment, or editorial decision-making.

The Editor remains fully responsible for all editorial assessments, communications, recommendations, and final decisions.

Confidential manuscripts, Reviewer reports, Author responses, unpublished data, figures, supplementary files, and private editorial communications must not be uploaded to public, unsecured, or unauthorized generative AI systems.

6 Conflicts of Interest

Editors must disclose and appropriately manage any financial, personal, academic, institutional, collaborative, competitive, commercial, political, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived as affecting their impartiality.

An Editor must not handle a manuscript where an unmanaged Conflict of Interest exists.

When the Editor-in-Chief has a Conflict of Interest concerning a submission, responsibility for the manuscript must be transferred to another qualified Editor or Editorial Board member who is independent of the relevant conflict.

7 Complaints and Appeals

EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar provides mechanisms for Authors and other parties to submit complaints and appeals concerning editorial procedures, editorial decisions, peer review, Editors, Reviewers, publication ethics, Conflicts of Interest, or research-integrity issues.

Complaints and appeals should normally be submitted in writing to the Editorial Office with sufficient information and supporting evidence.

Appeals concerning editorial decisions should identify a significant procedural error, factual misunderstanding, unmanaged Conflict of Interest, or other substantial issue that could reasonably have affected the decision.

Disagreement with Reviewer comments or editorial judgment alone does not necessarily constitute sufficient grounds for an appeal.

A person who is the subject of a complaint must not determine the outcome of that complaint.

B Duties of Reviewers
1 Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review assists Editors in making informed editorial decisions and helps Authors improve the quality, clarity, validity, and scholarly contribution of their manuscripts.

Reviewers are expected to provide constructive, objective, respectful, timely, and evidence-based assessments.

2 Promptness and Competence

An invited Reviewer who believes that they lack appropriate expertise, cannot provide an impartial assessment, have a relevant Conflict of Interest, or cannot complete the review within the required period should promptly inform the Editor and decline the invitation.

3 Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents.

Reviewers must not share, distribute, reproduce, discuss, or disclose manuscripts or their contents to unauthorized persons.

Reviewers must not use unpublished materials, ideas, methods, data, arguments, or findings obtained through peer review for their own research, publication, teaching, personal benefit, or the benefit of another party.

4 Use of Generative AI in Peer Review

Reviewers must personally conduct peer-review assessments using their own scholarly expertise, academic judgment, and ethical responsibility.

Generative AI or AI-assisted technologies must not replace the Reviewer's scholarly evaluation or independent judgment.

Reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts, figures, tables, datasets, supplementary files, Author responses, review forms, or other confidential peer-review materials to public, unsecured, or unauthorized generative AI systems.

Where the journal prohibits AI-assisted manuscript assessment, Reviewers must comply fully with that policy.

5 Standards of Objectivity

Reviews must focus on the scholarly content of the manuscript.

Personal criticism, discriminatory comments, insulting language, intimidation, or inappropriate remarks directed toward Authors are unacceptable.

Reviewers should clearly explain substantive criticisms and, where appropriate, support recommendations with relevant scholarly reasoning or evidence.

6 Acknowledgement of Sources and Citation Ethics

Reviewers may identify relevant scholarly literature that has been overlooked when such literature is genuinely important to evaluating or improving the manuscript.

Reviewers must not recommend citations primarily to increase citations to their own work, colleagues, institutions, the journal, or particular publications.

Citation recommendations must be based solely on legitimate scholarly relevance.

Reviewers should inform the Editor when they identify substantial overlap, plagiarism, redundant publication, citation manipulation, data manipulation, or other potential ethical concerns.

7 Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must disclose any potential Conflict of Interest arising from personal, academic, financial, institutional, competitive, collaborative, commercial, political, or other relevant relationships.

Reviewers should decline the review when such conflicts could reasonably compromise or appear to compromise impartial assessment.

C Duties of Authors
1 Reporting Standards and Accuracy

Authors must provide an accurate, honest, transparent, and sufficiently detailed account of the research conducted.

Methods, data, analyses, results, figures, tables, references, and other research information must be reported accurately.

Fabrication, falsification, inappropriate manipulation, selective misrepresentation, or knowingly misleading reporting is prohibited.

Authors should provide sufficient methodological information to enable readers and Reviewers to understand, evaluate, and, where appropriate, reproduce or replicate the research.

2 Originality, Plagiarism, and Similarity

Authors must ensure that manuscripts submitted to EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar represent original scholarly work.

Words, ideas, theories, data, methods, instruments, figures, tables, images, or other materials originating from other sources must be appropriately cited, acknowledged, quoted, licensed, or used with permission where required.

The journal does not tolerate plagiarism, inappropriate text recycling, citation manipulation, or misleading reuse of previously published material.

Similarity-checking software may be used as part of the journal's manuscript screening procedure.

A similarity percentage must not automatically determine whether a manuscript constitutes plagiarism or whether it should be accepted or rejected. Similarity results should be evaluated according to the source, nature, context, extent, distribution, and significance of the identified similarities.

3 Multiple, Redundant, and Concurrent Submission

Authors must not submit substantially the same manuscript simultaneously to EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar and another journal.

Manuscripts that substantially overlap with previously published work must transparently disclose and cite the related publication.

Redundant, duplicate, or fragmented publication intended to misrepresent the originality or quantity of research output is unacceptable.

4 Acknowledgement of Sources and Citation Ethics

Authors must appropriately acknowledge scholarly sources that materially contributed to the conceptualization, methodology, interpretation, discussion, or context of the research.

Authors must not engage in citation manipulation, coercive citation, citation cartels, unnecessary self-citation, irrelevant citation, or deliberate omission of materially relevant sources in a misleading manner.

5 Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship must accurately reflect substantive scholarly contributions to the work.

All listed Authors must meet the journal's authorship requirements, approve the submitted manuscript, and accept responsibility and accountability for their contributions.

Individuals who contributed to the research but do not meet the requirements for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged.

Guest authorship, honorary authorship, gift authorship, and ghost authorship are unacceptable.

Requests for addition, removal, rearrangement, or other changes in authorship must follow the journal's established procedures and must be appropriately justified.

6 Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies

Authors may use generative AI, AI-assisted technologies, language-support tools, or other assistive technologies only in accordance with the journal's policy.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, ethical compliance, verification, references, interpretation, and final content of their manuscript.

AI-assisted technologies must not replace Authors' substantive scholarly contribution, critical reasoning, data analysis, interpretation, discussion, or conclusions.

The use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies must be disclosed when required by the journal.

Generative AI systems, including large language models and other AI tools, cannot be listed as Authors or co-authors because authorship requires human responsibility and accountability.

Authors are responsible for verifying AI-assisted outputs, including factual statements, references, citations, interpretations, and other generated material.

7 Conflicts of Interest and Funding Disclosure

Authors must disclose relevant financial, personal, academic, institutional, professional, political, commercial, or other interests that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research, interpretation, writing, or publication of the manuscript.

Sources of research funding, grants, sponsorship, institutional assistance, or other material support must be transparently disclosed.

8 Data Availability and Reproducibility

Authors are responsible for maintaining accurate records of the data, instruments, materials, methods, procedures, and analyses underlying their research.

Where appropriate and ethically permissible, Editors may request raw data, supporting materials, analysis files, instruments, or other relevant documentation for editorial assessment, verification, correction, or research-integrity investigation.

Data sharing must comply with applicable ethical, legal, privacy, confidentiality, security, institutional, and funder requirements.

9 Research Ethics and Ethical Oversight

Research involving human participants, children, students, teachers, schools, communities, vulnerable populations, personal data, sensitive information, or other activities requiring ethical oversight must comply with applicable ethical, legal, and institutional standards.

Where required, Authors must obtain appropriate:

  • ethics approval;
  • informed consent;
  • parental or guardian consent;
  • assent from child participants where appropriate;
  • institutional or school permission;
  • research permits; and/or
  • consent for publication.

The privacy, confidentiality, dignity, identity, personal information, images, and welfare of research participants must be appropriately protected.

Because EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar publishes research within primary education, Authors conducting studies involving elementary-school children must pay particular attention to ethical protections appropriate for minors and educational settings.

10 Fundamental Errors in Published Works

When Authors discover significant errors, inaccuracies, ethical problems, or other material concerns in their published work, they must promptly inform the Editorial Office and cooperate with the journal in determining appropriate corrective action.

D Research Misconduct

EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar takes allegations of research and publication misconduct seriously.

Research and publication misconduct may include, but is not limited to:

fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, inappropriate text recycling, citation manipulation, peer-review manipulation, data manipulation, image manipulation, unethical authorship practices, undisclosed Conflicts of Interest, redundant publication, duplicate submission, unethical research practices, and other serious violations of research or publication ethics.

Concerns may arise before or after publication and may be reported by Authors, readers, Reviewers, Editors, institutions, whistleblowers, or other parties.

Anonymous or confidential allegations may be considered when they contain sufficiently specific, credible, and relevant information.

Depending on the nature and seriousness of the concern, the journal may:

  1. conduct a preliminary assessment;
  2. request clarification from the Author(s);
  3. request raw data or supporting documentation;
  4. seek independent expert assessment;
  5. examine relevant evidence;
  6. communicate with Authors or other relevant parties;
  7. contact an institution, research ethics committee, funder, research-integrity body, or other appropriate authority where necessary.

The editorial or publication process may be suspended while serious ethical or research-integrity concerns are being assessed.

Depending on the findings and publication status, appropriate action may include rejection, withdrawal, correction, erratum, corrigendum, expression of concern, retraction, article removal, article replacement, or referral to an appropriate institution or authority.

Actions should be proportionate to the nature, severity, evidence, and impact of the identified problem.

E Post-Publication Updates and Scholarly Discussion

EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar is committed to preserving the accuracy, transparency, reliability, permanence, and integrity of the scholarly record after publication.

Where a significant error or research-integrity issue is identified, appropriate post-publication action may include:

  • Correction
  • Erratum
  • Corrigendum
  • Expression of Concern
  • Retraction
  • Article Removal
  • Article Replacement

The appropriate action will depend on the nature, severity, origin, evidence, and impact of the issue.

Significant post-publication actions should be transparently documented and linked to the Original Article where technically and editorially appropriate.

F Comments and Criticism

EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar supports responsible post-publication scholarly discussion.

Comments and Criticism may address methodology, statistical analysis, interpretation, theoretical considerations, limitations, reproducibility, clarification, educational implications, or other scholarly matters concerning published articles.

Where appropriate, Authors of the Original Article may be invited to publish an Author Response.

Allegations concerning fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, unethical research, peer-review manipulation, authorship misconduct, or other serious ethical violations should normally be communicated confidentially to the Editorial Office for preliminary assessment rather than presented as established facts in a public scholarly comment.

G Intellectual Property, Copyright, Licensing, and Open Access

Authors, Editors, Reviewers, and the Publisher must respect copyright, intellectual property rights, licensing requirements, permissions, and appropriate attribution of third-party materials.

Copyright ownership, Author rights, licensing terms, Open Access conditions, permitted reuse, and repository or self-archiving provisions must be transparently communicated through the journal's relevant policies.

The applicable copyright holder and licensing terms should be clearly identified in published content.

H Responsibilities of the Publisher

The Publisher of EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar is responsible for supporting an editorially independent, transparent, accessible, reliable, ethical, and sustainable scholarly publishing environment.

The Publisher shall:

  • respect the editorial independence of the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Team;
  • not improperly interfere with individual manuscript decisions;
  • support appropriate infrastructure for manuscript submission, peer review, publication, metadata registration, preservation, and access;
  • support Editors in handling serious ethical, legal, publication-integrity, and research-integrity concerns;
  • ensure that publication fees, sponsorship, advertising, institutional interests, or revenue considerations do not determine editorial outcomes;
  • support appropriate corrections, retractions, and other actions required to protect the scholarly record;
  • maintain appropriate digital preservation and archiving arrangements;
  • transparently disclose journal ownership and management;
  • support accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusivity in scholarly publishing; and
  • periodically review journal policies in response to developments in scholarly publishing standards.
I Publication Fees and Commercial Practices

Publication charges, administrative fees, waivers, sponsorship, advertising, or other financial matters must not influence peer-review outcomes, editorial decisions, ethical assessments, or post-publication actions.

Where publication charges are applicable, the journal must transparently communicate the amount, timing, purpose, exemptions or waivers, and conditions associated with those charges.

Advertising, sponsorship, marketing activities, institutional interests, revenue considerations, and other commercial activities must remain separate from editorial decision-making.

Direct marketing and manuscript solicitation conducted on behalf of EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar must be appropriate, targeted, professional, and based on accurate information.

The journal must not use misleading statements concerning indexing status, journal metrics, peer-review duration, acceptance, publication guarantees, fees, or other journal characteristics.

J Policy Review

EduStream: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar periodically reviews this Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement and related editorial policies to maintain consistency with developments in scholarly publishing standards, publication ethics, technology, research practices, and applicable institutional, legal, or regulatory requirements.

The journal may revise its policies in response to updated guidance or standards issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Crossref, and other relevant scholarly publishing organizations.

Where a situation is not specifically addressed by an existing journal policy, Editors and the Publisher may exercise professional editorial judgment while considering available evidence, appropriate external guidance, independent expert advice where necessary, and the principles of fairness, proportionality, transparency, confidentiality, editorial independence, and protection of the scholarly record.

Until a revised policy is formally adopted, the current approved version remains applicable.
