The rapid growth of internet access has been followed by the spread of online gambling
in Indonesia, including in rural areas such as Kembangan Village, where a resident
was once involved in an online gambling case. Although the village already has a Legal
Aid Post (Posbakum), its function remains reactive and has not been complemented by
direct legal education for the community. This study aims to examine the level of legal
knowledge and awareness of Kembangan Village residents regarding the dangers and
legal consequences of online gambling before legal education, and to measure the
effectiveness of legal education in improving that knowledge and awareness. This
research uses an empirical legal method with a quantitative pre-experimental one
group pretest-posttest design supported by qualitative data from 32 respondents,
analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results show that the pretest mean
score of 45.92 increased to 84.42 after the intervention, with a Wilcoxon Z value of
4.937 (p = 0.000) and an effect size of 0.873, indicating a large effect. Legal education
is thus proven effective as a preventive measure in strengthening community legal
awareness.
