Abstract

This research is motivated by the The rapid expansion of the e-sports industry has transformed online game accounts from mere entertainment into high-value digital assets (virtual property) for professional e-sports athletes. However, the prevalence of unlawful account takeovers (cybercrime) poses significant financial and reputational threats. This normative legal research aims to analyze the juridical qualification of game accounts, the application of Indonesian criminal law, and the enforcement challenges involved. The findings demonstrate that unauthorized account takeovers constitute illegal access and data manipulation under Law No. 1 of 2024 (UU ITE), alongside personal data violations under Law No. 27 of 2022 (UU PDP). Through extensive interpretation of Article 476 of the New Criminal Code (KUHP), game accounts can be classified as intangible assets. Nevertheless, law enforcement encounters obstacles, including legal gaps regarding virtual asset regulations, cross-border jurisdictional constraints, and technical digital evidence collection. Thus, optimizing Electronic System Operator accountability and developing adaptive regulations are imperative to ensure legal certainty within Indonesia's e-sports ecosystem.
