This study aims to examine how the Indonesian folktale Timun Mas can be utilized as a culture-based moral education model for primary education that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, it contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality). The study employs a qualitative approach using a narrative case study design, complemented by content analysis of the story’s textual and visual elements. The findings indicate that Timun Mas serves not only as a source of entertainment but also as an effective educational tool. The story promotes children’s self-awareness, problem-solving skills, and emotional regulation through the symbolic use of magical objects and narrative conflicts. Furthermore, the moral values embedded in the story—including courage, independence, honesty, resilience, and responsibility—support the development of 21st-century competencies among primary school students. The female protagonist also represents gender equality by challenging traditional stereotypes and portraying women as capable, proactive, and strategic individuals. Moreover, the concept of Glocal Praxis is reflected in the intergenerational transmission of local cultural values, transforming them into learning experiences that are relevant in a global context. In conclusion, Timun Mas demonstrates strong potential for integration into primary education as a means of strengthening students’ character while connecting local cultural identity with the demands of global education.
