Archiving and Repository Policy

Archiving and Repository Policy

The Journal of Sport and Exercise Science (JSES) is committed to ensuring permanent accessibility, scientific integrity, long-term digital preservation, and continuous dissemination of all published research in sport and exercise sciences.

  1. Electronic Backup

The official Version of Record (VoR) of all articles published by JSES is maintained on the journal’s public OJS platform. Redundant copies of all published articles and critical metadata are systematically backed up on an off-site institutional cloud storage environment managed by the editorial office. This off-site backup guarantees comprehensive disaster recovery in the event of server failures or technical anomalies.

  1. Digital Preservation Strategy

To prevent data loss and ensure persistent archiving:

  • National Archiving Compliance: Published articles are periodically submitted to the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (Perpustakaan Nasional RI) in accordance with mandatory deposit regulations, as well as integrated into national scholarly databases (GARUDA).
  • Persistent Identifiers: Every published article is assigned a persistent Digital Object Identifier (DOI) registered through Crossref to maintain permanent link stability and citation traceability.

  1. Self-Archiving and Author Repository Rights

JSES operates under an Open Access framework and permits authors to self-archive their scholarly outputs under the following terms:

  • Eligible Versions: Authors may deposit the Submitted Version (Preprint), Accepted Manuscript (Post-print), and the published Version of Record (VoR).
  • Embargo Period: Zero embargo (No embargo). Authors are permitted to deposit their work immediately into institutional repositories, subject-based repositories (e.g., SportRxiv), funder-mandated portals, or non-commercial academic profiles (e.g., ResearchGate, Academia.edu, Google Scholar).
  • Citation and Attribution: When self-archiving the Version of Record, authors must provide full bibliographic citations and include the permanent DOI link directing to the original publication on the JSES website.
  • Pre-publication Similarity Screening: Authors should note that publicly deposited preprints may result in elevated similarity index scores during editorial plagiarism screening (e.g., Turnitin). This overlap is recognized as legitimate and does not constitute misconduct. Authors must notify the editorial team upon submission regarding any prior preprint deposits so the similarity report can be evaluated contextually.
