AI Tools Usage Policy

JSES: Journal of Sport and Exercise Science allows the responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including large language models such as ChatGPT, only as supporting tools in manuscript preparation (e.g., language editing, summarization, or text structuring). AI tools must not replace human scientific judgment, critical thinking, or responsibility.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all submitted content. Any use of generative AI must be clearly disclosed in the manuscript under a section entitled “Declaration of AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process.” AI tools must not be listed as authors.

Example disclosure statements:

The authors declare that no artificial intelligence (AI) tools were used in the collection, analysis, or interpretation of study data. AI-assisted software (ChatGPT, OpenAI, USA) was used exclusively for language editing and grammatical refinement during manuscript preparation. All aspects of the scientific content, including study design, data analysis, and interpretation of results, were conducted solely by the authors, who take full responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the manuscript.

Reviewers and editors are strictly prohibited from uploading manuscripts, review reports, or editorial correspondence into generative AI tools. Peer review and editorial decisions must rely exclusively on human expertise and professional judgment.

Failure to disclose AI use or misuse of AI tools may result in editorial action in accordance with COPE guidelines
