Abstract

The Surabaya Submarine Monument (Monkasel) is a tourist destination that uses an authentic SS Whiskey Class submarine, which is part of the Indonesian Navy's Eastern Division fleet, but does not yet have an attractive visual identity for children aged 7–12 years as the majority of visitors. This study aims to design a mascot as a visual identity for Monkasel to increase attraction, interest in visiting, and historical understanding in children. The method used is Design Thinking which includes the stages of empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test, with data collection through observation, interviews, literature studies, and surveys. The design results in a mascot that represents the characteristics of the KRI Pasopati 410 submarine and the Hiu Kencana symbol with a cartoon visual style and bright colors that suit children's psychology. This design is expected to strengthen Monkasel's branding as an educational tourism that is attractive, communicative, and easy to remember by children.
