Focus and Scope

Virtuoso is music journal that publishes scientific articles focusing on all aspects of music in Indonesia, including popular music studies, ethnomusicology, digital music, music performance, and music education. Music creation studies include: music composition. Virtuoso contains articles by researchers from various disciplines and theoretical perspectives. Each issue contains articles of substance, novelty, findings, and the dissemination of ideas related to practical and theoretical developments in the field of music.

This journal encompasses original research articles, review articles, and performance analysis, including:

  1. Traditional Music: a study of musical forms, cultural inheritance, and strategies for the existence of Indonesian traditional music.
  2. Music Performance: a study and analysis of techniques, forms of presentation, music presentation management.
  3. Music Education: A study of formal, non-formal, informal music education in Indonesia.
  4. Ethnomusicology: The study of ethnic music that emphasizes the characteristics of regional music throughout Indonesia.
  5. Folk Music: The study of folk music in Indonesia.
  6. Music Sociology: A study of music as it relates to society.
  7. Music Anthropology: A study of the meanings and symbols in Indonesian music.
  8. Film Music: A study that includes the process of creation as well as a study of film music that has developed in Indonesia.
  9. Digital Music: A study of digital music creation, analyzing music technology.
  10. Popular Music: A study of popular music in Indonesia; an analysis of trending or viral music is also acceptable.
  11. Music Composition: A study of the concept, idea of music creation that characterizes Indonesian music.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Archiving

Virtuoso is stored in a digital archive to ensure long-term digital preservation. These archives include:

  2. Indonesia One Search
  3. Garuda (Digital Referral Guard)

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to this journal must follow Focus and Scope and Author Guidelines of this journal. The submitted manuscripts must fulfil scientific merit or novelty appropriate to the focus and scope of this journal.

All manuscripts submitted to this journal must be written in excellent and academic English. Non-native authors are encouraged to have their paper checked its grammar and clarity before submission. English language and copyediting services can be provided by International Science Editing and Asia Science Editing. The work must not have been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.

All submitted manuscripts must be free from plagiarism contents. All authors are suggested to use plagiarism detection software to do the similarity checking (please use Turnitin to check the similarity). Editors will also check the similarity of manuscripts in this journal by using a Turnitin software.

The submitted manuscripts to this journal will be peer-reviewed at least 2 (two) or more expert reviewers from Peer-Reviewers Team. The reviewers give valuable scientific comments improving the contents of the manuscript. Sometimes (if required) a third peer-reviewer is needed to give critical comments to the submitted manuscript. The review process used in this journal is double blind review system.

The final decision of manuscript acceptance is solely made by Editor in Chief (together with Editorial Board is required for consideration) according to reviewers critical comments. The final decision of the manuscript is solely based on the Editor and Editorial Board final review, which considering peer-reviewers comments (but not solely by Reviewer).

Editor in Chief will make a publication of accepted articles including the assigning the article to the published issue by considering the sequence of accepted date and geographical distribution of authors as well as a thematic issue.

Publication Frequency

The journal was first published June 2018.
Starting in 2018, the journal published every June and November. There are at least 12 articles published per year.

Policy of Screening for Plagiarism

All articles submitted to Virtuoso must be the original work of the author (free of plagiarism). The submitted article has never existed in any media and/or is not being or will be submitted in any media. The author is responsible for the authenticity of the submitted manuscript. All incoming manuscript will be checked for authenticity to prevent plagiarism by using Turnitin and/or iThenticate, anti-plagiarism software. Any forms of high-level plagiarism will be banned (temporary up to permanent banned).
