The Tradition of Rice Harvesting in Glinggang Village, Sampung District, Ponorogo Regency

Abstract

The Rice Harvesting Tradition is a form of semi-oral folklore that is still preserved by the
community of Glinggang Village, Sampung District, Ponorogo Regency. This tradition is
held once a year during the harvest season as an expression of gratitude to God Almighty
and a tribute to nature and Dewi Sri, who is believed to be the guardian of rice fertility. This
study discusses various aspects of the Metik Padi tradition, including its origins, the
procedures of the ritual, and efforts to preserve it. A descriptive qualitative approach is used
to provide a clearer understanding of the tradition. Data were collected through both
primary and secondary sources, using techniques such as observation, interviews,
documentation, and research instruments. The results reveal the origins of the Metik Padi
tradition, the sequence of its rituals, and the philosophical meanings behind each stage.
Despite the challenges of modernization, the tradition continues to be preserved through the
collective efforts of the community, local government, educational institutions, and social
media ensuring it can be passed down to future generations.
