Peer Review and Editorial Process

The Journal of Tropical Animal Bioscience (JTAB) is committed to maintaining high standards of scientific quality, originality, integrity, and transparency in scholarly publishing. All manuscripts submitted to JTAB undergo an editorial screening process, followed by peer review by qualified experts in relevant fields of tropical animal bioscience and livestock science.

Manuscript Submission

  1. Authors register an account on the JTAB journal website.
  2. Authors log in to the online journal submission system.
  3. Authors submit their manuscripts in accordance with the journal's author guidelines and manuscript template.
  4. Authors must ensure that their submissions are original, have not been published previously, and are not under consideration by another journal.
  5. All authors must approve the submitted manuscript and agree to its submission to JTAB.

Editorial Screening

  1. The Editor conducts an initial assessment to determine whether the manuscript falls within the scope of JTAB.
  2. The manuscript is evaluated for compliance with the journal's author guidelines, scientific relevance, originality, basic methodological soundness, and ethical requirements.
  3. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's requirements may be returned to the authors for technical corrections or rejected without external peer review.
  4. Manuscripts that pass the initial screening proceed to the peer review stage.

Reviewer Assignment

  1. Each manuscript that passes the initial editorial screening is assigned to a minimum of two independent reviewers with appropriate expertise in the relevant research field.
  2. Reviewers are selected based on their academic qualifications, subject expertise, and ability to provide an objective scientific assessment.
  3. Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and maintain the confidentiality of the manuscript.
  4. The Editor is responsible for selecting reviewers and ensuring that the review process is conducted fairly and professionally.

Peer Review Process

JTAB applies a double-blind peer review system, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other throughout the review process.

Reviewers assess manuscripts based on the following criteria:

  1. Originality, novelty, and contribution to scientific knowledge.
  2. Relevance to tropical animal bioscience, animal production, livestock breeding and genetics, animal reproduction, nutrition, physiology, health, welfare, and related fields.
  3. Appropriateness of the research design and methodology.
  4. Quality, reliability, and adequacy of the data.
  5. Accuracy of statistical analyses and interpretation of results.
  6. Discussion of findings in relation to relevant scientific literature.
  7. Clarity, organization, and quality of scientific writing.
  8. Adequacy of references and compliance with scientific and publication ethics.

Reviewers provide constructive comments and a recommendation to the Editor. The final editorial decision remains the responsibility of the Editor and is not determined solely by the reviewers' recommendations.

Editorial Decision and Manuscript Revision

Based on the reviewers' comments and the Editor's assessment, a manuscript may receive one of the following decisions:

  1. Accept: The manuscript is accepted without further substantive revision.
  2. Minor Revision: The manuscript requires limited corrections or clarifications.
  3. Major Revision: The manuscript requires substantial revision to address scientific, methodological, analytical, or interpretative concerns.
  4. Reject: The manuscript does not meet the scientific, ethical, or editorial standards of JTAB.

Authors receiving a revision decision must revise their manuscripts according to the Editor's and reviewers' comments. A point-by-point response letter explaining how each comment has been addressed must accompany the revised manuscript.

Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further assessment, particularly when major revisions have been requested.

Similarity Screening and Publication Ethics

  1. Manuscripts are screened for textual similarity using appropriate similarity-detection software in accordance with JTAB's editorial policies.
  2. Similarity screening may be conducted during the initial evaluation and/or before final acceptance.
  3. Similarity reports are evaluated by the Editor. Similarity percentages are not interpreted as the sole basis for an editorial decision; the nature, source, and context of matching text are also considered.
  4. Manuscripts suspected of plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, or other forms of publication misconduct are handled in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.
  5. Research involving animals must comply with applicable animal welfare regulations and relevant ethical requirements. Authors must provide appropriate ethical approval or a justification of exemption, where applicable.

Copyediting, Layout, and Proofreading

  1. Manuscripts accepted for publication proceed to copyediting and layout preparation.
  2. The editorial team checks the consistency of the manuscript's language, references, tables, figures, and formatting.
  3. Authors are provided with page proofs or the final formatted version for checking.
  4. Authors must review the proofs and report any necessary corrections within the specified deadline.
  5. Only corrections necessary to ensure accuracy, clarity, and publication quality should be made at this stage. Substantive changes require editorial approval.

Final Editorial Evaluation

  1. The Editor conducts a final assessment of the revised and formatted manuscript.
  2. The Editor verifies that the required revisions have been addressed, publication ethics requirements have been fulfilled, and the manuscript complies with JTAB's editorial and formatting standards.
  3. Manuscripts that do not satisfactorily meet these requirements may be returned for further correction or withheld from publication.

Final Acceptance and Publication

  1. A manuscript is formally accepted only after the Editor confirms that all scientific, editorial, and ethical requirements have been fulfilled.
  2. Accepted manuscripts are assigned to the appropriate journal issue in accordance with the journal's publication schedule.
  3. Articles are published online and made accessible to readers in accordance with JTAB's publication and access policies.
