Ethical Quandaries in The BBC Audio-Visual Documentation of Sexual Harassment in West African Universities

Di perguruan tinggi, perhatian terbatas pada bagaimana korban mendapatkan bukti untuk menantang pelecehan seksual. Studi ini mengeksplorasi dokumentasi dan etika bukti audio-visual pelecehan seksual di universitas Nigeria dan Ghana. Melalui pendekatan kualitatif, video BBC Sex4Grade dan diskusi pelecehan seksual di Nairaland dalam domain publik dipilih secara sengaja. Data tersebut kemudian dianalisis kontennya menggunakan dilema etika. Kebutuhan akan bukti melahirkan dokumentasi yang dipremediasi melalui dukungan institusional dan informal. Penggunaan kamera pintar tanpa persetujuan dari dosen pria memunculkan pertanyaan etis. Interpretasi gerakan tubuh bersifat subjektif sementara semua skenario memiliki makna alternatif. Klip visual mengungkap disparitas dan negosiasi kontekstual dalam konstruksi sosial pelecehan seksual antara mahasiswa perempuan dan dosen yang dicurigai mereka. Bukti tersebut tidak memenuhi semua syarat etis, namun bukti visual tetap menjadi upaya terakhir untuk keadilan karena kerangka hukum melemah oleh sistem patriarki. Namun, demikian, pemasangan CCTV di tempat kerja dengan transparansi dan persetujuan informasi dari karyawan dapat mencegah pelecehan seksual yang memperkuat kerangka hukum dan proaktifitas perempuan dalam mencari bantuan hukum dengan suasana etis yang dapat diterima.
