Abstract

The transport sector is user of fossil fuels, and the second largest contributor of pollutants after the industrial sector. Therefore, transition of fossil fuel vehicles to electric vehicles (EV) is one alternative to reduce environmental pollution. The problem faced from the use of electric vehicles is the improvement of the power supply network for charging electric vehicles. The use of renewable energy sources (RES) for EV charging can overcome the increase in the power supply grid and offer a promising solution to the problem of environmental pollution. In this paper, the research objective is to assess the technological of Solar Photovoltaic system for electric vehicle charging power source installed along the road. The proposed system consists of an 8 KW solar photovoltaic and 5 KW inverter, the system can generate 27411,3 KWH/year of electricity. The results show that this electric vehicle charging system is able to save electricity purchase to charge electric vehicles by USD 4.105/year. The annual electric vehicle charging capability can reach 650 electric cars and 1561 electric bicycles.
