GEN AI

The Indigenous Law and Socio-Legal Studies Journal (ILSLSJ) recognizes the responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies while maintaining academic integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and human accountability.

1. Authors

Authors may use AI tools, such as ChatGPT or Grammarly, for language improvement, grammar checking, formatting, and readability. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scholarly content of their manuscripts.

AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors must disclose any substantive use of generative AI in an AI Use Statement. For example:

During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [AI tool name] for language improvement and readability. The authors reviewed and edited all outputs and take full responsibility for the final content of the manuscript.

AI-generated content must be critically verified, and authors must not use AI to fabricate data, references, citations, evidence, or research findings.

2. Images and Other Content

The use of generative AI to create or substantially modify images, figures, or other research materials must be disclosed and appropriately described in the manuscript, including the tool used and its role in the research.

3. Reviewers and Editors

Reviewers and editors must not upload manuscripts, unpublished materials, personal data, or confidential information to generative AI tools. AI must not be used as a substitute for human judgment in peer review or editorial decision-making.

4. Accountability

Authors, reviewers, and editors remain responsible for their use of AI technologies. Undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI, including fabrication, plagiarism, manipulation, or violation of confidentiality, may constitute research or publication misconduct and may result in rejection, correction, or retraction.

ILSLSJ follows internationally recognized principles of responsible AI use in scholarly publishing, including guidance from COPE and major academic publishers.
