Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

The Indonesian Journal of Rural and Regional Innovation Studies (IJRRIS)

1. General Information

  • IJRRIS is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal published by the Center for Rural and Regional Development, Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA).

  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration in any other journal.

  • The journal accepts articles written in English (preferred) or Bahasa Indonesia with an English abstract.


2. Types of Manuscripts Accepted

IJRRIS publishes articles in the following categories:

  1. Original Research Articles – empirical or theoretical studies on rural and regional development.

  2. Review Articles – comprehensive analysis of relevant literature in the field.

  3. Case Studies / Best Practices – reports on innovative practices, policies, or community-based programs.

  4. Policy Notes / Briefs – critical policy analyses with practical recommendations.


3. Manuscript Structure

Each manuscript should be prepared according to the following structure:

a. Title

  • Concise, informative, and no more than 15 words.

  • Written in English, with Indonesian title if the manuscript is in Bahasa Indonesia.

b. Author(s) Information

  • Full name(s) of the author(s).

  • Institutional affiliation(s), city, and country.

  • Corresponding author’s email address.

c. Abstract and Keywords

  • Abstract of 150–250 words in English (and Indonesian if the article is written in Bahasa Indonesia).

  • Should include: background, purpose, method, results, and conclusion.

  • 3–5 keywords that reflect the core topics.

d. Main Text

  1. Introduction

    • Research background, rationale, objectives, and contribution to knowledge.

  2. Literature Review (if necessary)

    • Theoretical framework and related studies.

  3. Methodology

    • Research design, data collection, and analysis techniques.

  4. Results and Discussion

    • Findings supported by tables, figures, or charts.

    • Critical analysis and comparison with existing literature.

  5. Conclusion

    • Summary of key findings, implications, limitations, and recommendations.

  6. Acknowledgments (if any)

    • Mention funders, institutions, or individuals who supported the research.

  7. References

    • Only include cited works.

    • Follow APA Style 7th Edition.


4. Technical Requirements

  • Manuscripts must be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) format.

  • Length: 5,000–7,000 words (excluding references).

  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12, 1.5 spacing.

  • Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides, A4 paper size.

  • Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively, titled, and placed close to the related text.


5. Reference Style

  • References and citations must follow the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition style.

  • Use a reference manager such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote.

  • Example:

    • Journal article:

      Smith, J., & Brown, P. (2020). Rural innovation and local development. Journal of Rural Studies, 35(2), 101–115. https://doi.org/xxxx

    • Book:

      Chambers, R. (2017). Whose reality counts? Putting the first last. London: Routledge.


6. Submission and Review Process

  • Manuscripts must be submitted through the IJRRIS online submission system (link will be provided).

  • Each manuscript will undergo a double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers.

  • Authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts based on reviewers’ feedback.

  • The editorial team reserves the right to edit manuscripts for clarity and format, without altering the substance.


7. Ethical Considerations

  • Authors must ensure that their work adheres to academic integrity and publication ethics.

  • Plagiarism (including self-plagiarism) is strictly prohibited. Manuscripts will be screened using plagiarism detection software.

  • All research involving human participants must follow ethical standards and, where necessary, provide approval from relevant ethics committees.


8. Article Processing Charges (APC)

  • IJRRIS currently applies no submission fee.

  • Article Processing Charge (if any) will be announced on the journal’s website.


9. Copyright and Open Access Policy

  • IJRRIS applies a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) License.

  • Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication.
